Travel health and vaccine advice for Micronesia (FSM)

The states of Kosrae, Yap, Pohnpei and Chuuk, each composed of small islands surrounded by atolls spread out across the West Pacific Ocean, are forming together the Federated States of Micronesia. But even if they are part of the same nation, the four states are fundamentally different, which makes them fascinating to explore. Chuuk is renowned for World War II wreck diving. Yap remains very traditional and is speckled with strange gigantic pieces of stone money. Kosrae is a true natural paradise home to a very religious population. Last but not least, Pohnpei hosts mysterious ancient ruins and still retains a system of clan Chiefs.

MEDICAL CARE

Access to medical care in Micronesia is limited. There are only a few hospitals and clinics in the archipelago, and they often suffer from the lack of adequate medical equipment. Note that you can find two hospital centers of satisfying quality on Pohnpei Island. But the in the event of serious sickness and injury, an air evacuation to another country is required.
